The Company
Efficacy Studies:
Biofarm is authorised by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies to conduct GEP (Good Experimental Practice) field trials.
Experimental GEP trials are conducted in accordance with the main international guidelines and are managed using ARM (Agricultural Research Manager) software.
The Test Facility is qualified to conduct field trials to obtain information relating to:
- Efficacy of Plant Protection Products
- Impact on quantitative and/or qualitative yield
- Phytotoxicity towards target plants and plant products
- Determination of residues in or on treated products, human or animal food
- Data on the occurrence or potential development of resistance
- Observations regarding undesirable side effects
- Identification of degradation and reaction products of metabolites in treated plants or products
- Assessment of residue behaviour of active substances and their metabolites, from application through to harvest or commercialisation of products
- Definition of the overall residue balance of active substances
- Evaluation of residue data in subsequent or rotational crops
- Determination of pre-harvest intervals for pre-harvest or post-harvest applications
Thanks to these quality standards, the results generated in biological terms (GEP) are accepted by all EU Member States for the approval process of plant protection products.
Trials are carried out both in open field and in protected cultivation (greenhouse, tunnel). The Biofarm Test Facility owns its own farm – approximately one hectare – which it uses for open field experiments; in addition, it collaborates with numerous qualified and selected third-party farms, both nationally and in other EU countries.
Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Studies
Biofarm is authorised by the Ministry of Health to conduct non-clinical studies with Plant Protection Products in compliance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (link to certificate). GLP studies are aimed at determining the extent of residues of plant protection products in the following activity sectors:
- Tree crops
- Arable crops
- Horticultural crops
- Weed control
- Entomology
- Nematology
- Plant pathology
Thanks to these quality standards, the results generated in terms of residues (GLP) are accepted by all EU Member States for the approval process of plant protection products.
